Begin The Begin
Just got back from my first run in ages. IM training has begun!
It actually felt pretty good, just running up and around the park. It’s clear I am very weak, but I can still knock out ~4 miles without too much effort.

Ironman… CA
So, I may have just gotten in to Ironman Canada. It’s next August, so I have exactly a year to train. I’ve been sedentary for two years, but I was in amazing shape (if I do say so myself) before that. I know I can do an Ironman at 226 lbs. I am now 246. That’s twenty pounds to lose in a year.
I got in through the community fund. They take your full race entry, plus a sizable charitable donation (hello taxes) and you get a slot. I was surprised I got it, since yesterday the available slots went from 65 to zero overnight. There were only three hundred to begin with, but it took a month to get to 65… Anyway, today I got an email telling me to fill out a form. I did so. So now I have to wait again, I guess it’s not guaranteed, but hopefully I’ll have good news soon…
Training kicks off today, none the less.
I have a one hour swim and a 45 minute run. I am going to take it easy for the first couple of months, since I’m coming off a year or so of downtime.
I only wish I could find my damn heart rate monitor…

I wrote this on the jDate boards, but I think it may just be the second best thing I’ve ever written:
“Love From Vegas”
On that second flight
Comes that second sight
Thoughts ignite
Movement skin tight
To be held so gently close
With such incidental invite
Sultry comes night
Slippery comes insight
Words feel so trite
Shift, slip, slight
To be held impossibly close
With such incendiary might
But there is no meaningful fright
Nothing meaningful to fight
Perhaps a verse to recite
Left hand on right
To be standing so irrevocably close
With’n such an overwhelming light.
